Wakarusa 2008 Initial Artist Announcement!

Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival announced its initial line-up today. Topping the bill are festival mainstays The Flaming Lips, making their second headlining gig at the Lawrence, Kansas festival. Many Wakarusa alumni such as the one-man extraordinaire Keller Williams, newly re-united Leftover Salmon, New Orleans funk band Galactic and up-and-coming electro-rock group Lotus are making an appearance, while new-to-the-festival acts like mandolin pioneer David Grisman, hip-hop stalwarts Blackalicious, soul stylist Betty LaVette and indie-pop act Dr. Dog round out the list.

Radiohead to play Houston, rock Cereal’s world

Radiohead are planning a two-segment North American tour, and–to my great delight–Houston made the cut! Take that, Austin. One segment of the tour will take place before their summer tour of the UK and Europe, and the second part will begin after. Dates and venues will be announced later, but you can view the list of cities they’ll be playing after the jump.

Cellophane Men

Moses Guest kicked off our 2008 musical adventures last night with a much-needed helping of jammy goodness. Eggs, Doughnut, Coffee, Chilaquiles and I joined the crowd at the I’ve-never-seen-it-so-packed-before Continental Club to take in the band’s brand of Southern rock/jam grooves. It was the first time we’d caught this Houston-based group live, and we were quite impressed. Check back very soon for a review by Eggs.

In addition to enjoying the prime groovage, we also got a lot of great shots of the band as well as of show-goers. My personal favorite from the batch of fan photos is this one, entitled (at their request) “Three Stoned Men”:

Talkin' 'Bout the Check O Crew

Now that the holiday season madness is over and things around BOT HQ have settled down a bit, I got a chance to upload all of the pictures from our photo shoot with Check Other. Check “em out here.

If you”re in the Atlanta area on Saturday, January 26, you definitely should head over to the to check out “Take the Stage”. The night will feature performances by Check Other and other underground artists; impromptu performances by audience members are also encouraged. Show starts at 7pm, and tickets are $15. If you can”t make it to the show, it will be broadcast in Houston, Atlanta and Chicago. We”ll give you details on how to access the broadcast as soon as they become available.
