Slightly Stoopid @ Wakarusa 2010

Slightly Stoopid filled up the Revival Tent. I don’t think another soul could fit in there, in fact, Hash Browns got a little overwhelmed and left me. I thought I had lost her, but no, she left me. I struggled going around the people when trying to get better angles for my shots, all the while soaking in the love from the fans (as well as some fumes and sweat, ya’ll).

See the rest of the review and photos after the break.

With their Ocean Beach, California roots, their style feels like a day full of sunshine and heavy waves. A successful fusion of reggae, hip-hop, punk and acoustic rock that had the audience drenched in sweaty bliss. With several studio albums under their belt and a very strong online presence, this band has created a big and loyal following.

Front-men Miles Doughty and Kyle McDonald manage vocals and trading instruments (bass and guitar) after every other song. I haven’t followed their work for long; but I could tell their Wakarusa set was full of hits, judging by the screaming fans and the singing along. The last song featured Fishbone talents (who had played their set just before Slightly Stoopid). The bands came together to play “Older” and a funky version of “Evony and Ivory” that left me thirsty for more.

You’ll probably have the opportunity to see them live, since Slightly Stoopid pretty much lives on the road. Trip to Vegas, anyone? Check out their 2010 tour dates. And if you’re wondering if I was able to find Hash Browns after all, the answer is yes. She came into the tent after it had emptied out. She was looking fresh and happy to have escaped the craze that I ended up loving.
