The Ben Miller Band @ Gulley Park
Words and Photos by B “Café con Leche” Gutierrez.
The Ben Miller Band from Joplin, MO is a Fayetteville fave. They play in town often and were fresh back from tour when they came to Gulley Park on July 29th. Their show was part of the Gulley Park Summer Concert Series, put together by Fayetteville Parks and Recreation. Keep reading and see photos after the jump.

Their set was a fun mix of styles, new and old songs, and types of instruments. The stage was full of stuff. Most of which they used to play in at least one song. Let me name a bit of what I saw: a guitar, a banjo, a sackbut, a mandolin, drums, a washboard, something made with a barrel, a spoon, and other stuff. By now, I’m pretty sure I’ve forgotten about some things.
It was a great evening because with the great music, people dancing by the stage, a refreshing breeze after the sun went down, hula-hoopers and dogs everywhere. Perfect Summer evening in my book!
They played a new song they wrote while on their most recent tour, “Gonna Get Back Home.” Then went into “a song about chasing girls,” which was followed by a few jokes (trying to keep them clean) and laughter.
The show went on and after I was done with my photos I sat on the grass and enjoyed the rest. They did the 4 Non Blondes‘ hit “What’s Up” very much A La Ben Miller and it was a highlight that night. Everyone was singing along and loving it. The evening was lovely. And it reminded me I need to buy one of those “Keep Fayetteville Funky” stickers.
They’re playing again in town before the last of the month. We’ll see if I can catch them then. For now, enjoy the shots I got for you.
