Go buy stuff!  Support your local indie record store!  Unprepared? Confused? Hungover? Get some coffee and check out the RSD Preview post by Sausage to find out what’s going on in Dallas and Houston, and this one by Cafe Con Leche for Fayetteville, AR.  Then watch the video above, a VHS dub of cheesy early-90s Pearl Jam footage set to awesome mid-90s Pearl Jam music.  All that dirty hair and sweat will quickly remind you why they called it grunge.  The song is “Spin the Black Circle,” PJ’s adorable little ode to vinyl.  Scream along!

Vote For Your Favorite Houston Band To Play Before The Headliner At Summerfest 2011!

2:04 pm by

Free Press Houston and are giving one Houston band the opportunity to play a coveted main stage slot right before the headliner on Saturday, June 4th. While the set will be shorter than a normal day slot, it will be in front of a massive crowd awaiting the main act of the day. Basically, one lucky-ass local band will have the opportunity to play in front of far more people than they ever have before. Huge. Summerfest has always put an emphasis on Houston music, but allowing the music fans of the city decide who they want to see play in front of thousands of new faces is something that makes them stand out above any other regional festival in the nation.

Only one vote will be counted per person (per e-mail address *wink wink*), so head on over to the Free Press Summer Fest website for your chance to help one local band gain a heaping helping of new fans.

Well now I know. On Monday night at House of Blues in Dallas Gogol Bordello graced the stage once again and the evening was everything I had expected. Read on for the rest of the review.
