UTOPiAfest 2011

The other evening, my better half was trolling through Facebook and her friend had posted something about a small camping festival in Central Texas called UTOPiAfest that was advertising the ability to have campfires and that you could bring your own booze. Not even seeing the line-up, the idea of a decently close camping festival in the middle of the hill country that I could go to on the cheap was almost enough for me. As soon as we clicked on the link from facebook, and jumped to the line-up page, the first two names I saw were Blitzen Trapper and Keller Williams – two bands I’ve loved for quite some time. A bit more investigation (scrolling down a bit further), and it was all I needed to see to ensure that I was definitely going to attend – current obsession by myself, everyone associated with BOT and all of our friends, Dawes was also listed to play the festival. Some more scrolling brought more excitement as bands like Avi Buffalo, Grupo Fantasma, Cornmeal and Black & White Years were all on the list. Finally, at the very bottom sat Japanese comic-book punks Peelander-Z – a band that will never fail to incite a party and the final straw needed to seal my trip to Utopia, Texas in Mid-October.

They are only selling 1500 tickets to the event that are most likely going to sell out pre-event, so if you want to spend a couple nights under the Texas stars with Dawes, Keller and the BOT crew, I’d suggest getting your pass soon. Until then, browse the entire line-up after the jump.

It’s been a while since I’ve been to a camping festival, so I’m truly looking forward to this event. It will also serve as a nice starting point the the next month of music including Voodoo Experience in New Orleans and Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin. I can’t freaking wait!
