Via Colori 2011

This upcoming weekend features one of my favorite events of the year. Mixing music with art is always a good time, but even better when it features a host of Houston’s best bands as well as a form of art that is not your normal everyday stuff. The best part is that it’s completely free! Via Colori is a street chalk art event that features some incredibly talented artists working for two straight days to bring some eye-popping masterpieces to the asphalt surrounding Sam Houston Park in downtown Houston. While you wander the streets to see some of the amazing pieces of work, you can also hop from stage to stage while drinking a beer, or dining on some quality bites from vendors around the park. Saturday, November 19th, features a cultural mix of great Houston talent including Klockwork, The Zydeco Dots, Solero Flamenco, Ceeplus Bad Knives, Jerk Store and The Texas Toast among others. Sunday, the 20th, features a Houston indie-scene’s who’s who with the likes of Roky Moon And Bolt!, Sideshow Tramps, Benjamin Wesley, Ancient Cat Society, Spain Colored Orange, The Literary Greats, Andrew Karnavas and Two Star Symphony.

My friend over at The Center For Hearing And Speech, the beneficiary who puts on the yearly event, books all the bands, and I can definitely tell which day she personally picked over which day she had to pick to make her bosses happy. Doesn’t matter, should be a solid event all weekend. I’ve always enjoyed myself at Via Colori over the years, but this year definitely promises to be the best one yet.

You can check out the full schedule of bands after the jump.
