Buy This Album: Apollo Sunshine - Shall Noise Upon

Starting today, we're going to let you in on which albums we're digging each week. Every Tuesday, your local record dealer or online retailer stocks their stores with a bounty of brand new music, fresh to most people's ears. Amongst these releases, one generally shines brightest.

This week features new releases from several newcomers and also one for nostalgic purposes (I guess?), but our most anticipated album comes from one of BOT's recent favorites, Apollo Sunshine. Their latest, Shall Noise Upon, is a genre-bending album that shifts from indie-folk to straight funk to calypso in a matter of minutes. We had the chance to see Apollo Sunshine for the first time this summer, and as you might have read in a prior post, their performance turned out to be one of our favorites of the year. So, as the title of this blog suggests, drop what you're doing and buy this album!

After a couple listens, standouts include the drum-heavy "666: the Coming of the New World Government," "The Funky Chamberlain (Who Begot Who)," and the Calexico-esque "Honestly." I am sure that my favorites will change after several listens, but those specific tracks immediately sparked my interest.

If you're too lazy to get up and go to your local record store, you can purchase the album either here (vinyl, CD), here (digital), or here (vinyl, CD, digital). Don't be too lethargic, though, because it would be a shame to see independent record stores go the way of the dodo.

If you want a preview, you can stream the full album over on AOL's Spinner, or head on over to their artist page on RCRD LBL to download the first single off of Shall Upon Noise, "666: the Coming of the New World Government."

Also, don't hesitate to let us know what you think of the album in our comments section.
