Critical Ack! Lame!

Mon, 12/01/2008 - 15:07

Today I was walking the Superpup and my iPod chose to play two songs in a row from My Chemical Romance’s The Black Parade, the title track and “The Sharpest Lives.” Now, this Bird has been writing about music for long enough that I’m over worrying too intently about what my fellow critics think. No, seriously.

Why bring this up now? Well, tomorrow night the Bird is heading to the Chicago Theater to cover the Fall Out Boy release show with the effervescent LG. There are probably few music geeks as psyched as I am for Folie à Deux as I am, and this FOB love isn’t a new affliction. I remember February 6, 2007 fondly - our offices over at The Onion flooded and then-Chicago city editor Kyle Ryan and I peaced out to catch the boys in an afternoon release party for Infinity on High at the House of Blues. It was part of a three-city, 24-hour tour de force that announced Fall Out Boy’s domination as one with staying power.

A little under two years later and we’re all (that would be me, Kyle, Amy Phillips and a bunch of younger folks) salivating over the arrival of a tasty new power pop gem from the Chicago ex-pats. No offense to Bronx Mowgli, but I prefer news about Pete Wentz’s ProTools creations more.

Anyone heard the new record?
