Rage Against The RNC
Submitted by eggs on Wed, 09/03/2008 - 13:33.Oh, you silly police officers. Stopping Rage Against The Machine from taking the stage will not actually stop them from playing, and you should know that. As everybody probably has figured out by now, RATM are not the type of band that likes to keep quiet about their beliefs. Frontman Zack de la Rocha's lyrics definitely ride on the far side of left, which in turn speaks directly to the working, middle-class people. As planned, RATM made their way to St. Paul to speak directly to those people, as well as to directly make demands of the horde of conservatives that have flooded the city for the Republican National Convention. Having a show already planned for tonight, they decided to arrive a little early to take the stage for a unannounced performance at the Ripple Effect Day Festival. That idea was quickly shot down, with the cops citing the band's absence from the festival's original roster, which apparently disallowed RATM from performing. Stupid. Instead, RATM decided to take it to the crowd where the police couldn't stop them. With a bullhorn in hand, de la Rocha and guitarist Tom Morello treated the crowd to a cappella versions of two RATM classics, "Bulls On Parade" and "Killing In The Name Of."
From reports I've read, the crowd dispersed peacefully from that impromptu show. Apparently that's not the case for a lot of other areas surrounding the RNC. People are going nuts up there! I don't know though, after seeing these uber-police, I'm not sure sure if I'd like to be anywhere near St. Paul.
The Octopus Project & Diagonals @ Warehouse Live
Submitted by cereal on Wed, 09/03/2008 - 02:42.Eggs and I hadn't visited our good friend Warehouse Live in what seemed like ages, so on Friday, August 29, we were happy to find ourselves on St. Emanuel Street with tickets in hand, approaching our favorite door guy. The Octopus Project and Diagonals were set to take over the Warehouse's Studio space, and we couldn't have asked for a better way to shake off our end-of-summer lethargy and fling ourselves into what looks to be a musically busy fall.

Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson - "Buriedfed"
Submitted by eggs on Wed, 09/03/2008 - 02:39.To be completely honest with you, it was the triple-first-name thing that led me to check him out. I want to thank Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson's mother and her indecisiveness, because if he did not have all those first names, I wouldn't have given him a chance. I'm glad I did though, because I can't get enough of this tune.
I'm currently digging deeper into Robinson's catalogue, and so far have enjoyed what I've heard. I have a feeling that this kid has a pretty bright career ahead of him, so hopefully I get the chance to see him before he starts playing larger rooms which feature more heads in my line of view. I really don't like missing a show due to someone's fat dome-piece in the way. It sucks.
Perspective: Outside Lands 2008
Submitted by cereal on Wed, 09/03/2008 - 00:44.We BOTheads weren't able to attend the inaugural edition of San Francisco's Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival, but we've been interested in the event since it was announced last spring. A slew of new multi-day festivals were added to the summer music scene this year, and Outside Lands stood out from the group with its solid lineup and lure of Golden Gate Park. I find it hard to believe that all the newbies will be around for a sophomore year, but judging from the preliminary evaluations, Outside Lands likely stands a good chance of returning next summer.
For a fan perspective of this year's Outside Lands, check out the recap sent to us by BOT friend AnnieB after the jump
