Voodoo Experience 2009: Saturday In Review

Voodoo Experience 2009: Saturday

If I'm ever not in New Orleans on or around Halloween, I better have some extremely good excuse. In a city where dressing up in extreme costumes is normal pretty much every day of the year, when Halloween hits, the city goes buck wild. Saturday of the 2009 Voodoo Experience was not only special because the stellar line-up, but also because it just happened to fall on All Hallows Eve. We awoke early, strapped on our costumes (zombie priest, zombie monk, zombie nun, Jesus...), and headed to City Park to catch sets from Dan Dyer, Mates Of State, Sam and Ruby, Mute Math, Rotary Downs, Gogol Bordello, Wolfmother, Drive By Truckers, Jane's Addiction, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic and KISS.

We were communally nursing hangovers while in full costume during the second day of the 2009 Voodoo Experience, but we still managed to have a full working crew on the scene. Eggs and Hash Browns brought along their cameras to City Park on Saturday, October 31th to capture the Halloween crowds, as well as the host of bands that performed throughout the day. We gathered tons of pictures for your viewing pleasure, which can all be seen after the jump.

Voodoo Experience 2009: Friday In Review

Voodoo Experience 2009: Friday

After taking a week to soak in what was the 11th annual Voodoo Experience, we've gathered our pictures and words to present for you all. Friday of Voodoo was a busy one which saw Toast and I driving straight from Houston to the festival where we met up with Bacon (and the Missus), Hash Browns and travel-mate "Skinny Sumo" for the start of an incredible weekend. During our first day we caught sets from a host of bands, including The Cool Kids, Tao Rodriguez-Seeger Band, Alejandro Escovedo, Janelle Monae, The Black Keys, Silversun Pickups, Justice, Ween and Eminem. Several hard rain storms also accompanied our first day, which only brought out the best in both the artists on stage and us fans rollicking in the mud.

While we wasted no time in getting the party started during the first day of the 2009 Voodoo Experience, we also happened to do a little work. Toast and Eggs brought along their cameras to City Park on Friday, October 30th to capture the scene, as well as the numerous bands that performed throughout the day. We did our best in running from stage to stage to document as much of the festival as possible, so feel free to check out all of our images after the jump.

Somebody's Darling @ Granada Theater

Note from the editor: I'd like to welcome both Michael Smith and Anna Vernon to the staff here at Breakfast On Tour. Michael and Anna will be bringing future coverage from the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex. Michael is a great wordsmith, while Anna has developed an instant knack for concert photography. They are both incredible assets, and I'd like to personally welcome them to the team. And don't worry, their breakfast names will come shortly... -Eggs

Somebody's Darling served up a healthy plate of deep-fried Texas Country at their CD release on Saturday Night. As the band took the stage at the Granada Theater on hip Lower Greenville Ave. in Dallas, a Buddy-Holly-bespectacled kid donning skinny jeans (and undoubtedly the author of his own blog) snapped a photo on his iPhone. But as he stood shoulder to shoulder with a stout man sporting a crossbones skullcap and a handlebar mustache, the room was indistinguishable from any gritty, Texas honky-tonk sitting off I-20 between Ft. Worth and Midland.
