Submitted by cereal on Sat, 07/26/2008 - 21:26.
On Sunday, July 27, sixty of the best musical acts Houston has to offer will descend upon downtown to exhibit their skills as part of the 2008 Houston Press Music Awards Showcase. Starting at 4pm, ten venues (Butterfly High, Dean's Credit Clothing, Flying Saucer, Hard Rock Cafe, Havana Latin Grill & Bar, Live Sports Cafe, Notsuoh, The Real Sammie's, ROCBAR, and Venue) will be playing host to nominees in all categories of this year's music awards. Mosaic will cater to the late-night crowd with sets from five DJs beginning at 10pm.

The event is a must for anyone with an interest in the Houston music scene - plus, it's just a damn good time. If you think all of Texas' musical talent is housed northwest of Houston on highway 290, it's imperative that you get yourself downtown and sample some of what our homegrown musicians have to offer. The lineup is so brimming with great bands that we've got several tough decisions to make. In particular, the 8pm quagmire involving Buxton, Arthur Yoria, Southern Backtones, Spain Colored Orange, skyblue72, and Hearts of Animals has got us reeling already. Our decision regarding the 9pm sets won't be any easier, what with conflicting performances from Young Mammals, Sideshow Tramps, Indian Jewelry, Karina Nistal, and Sharks & Sailors.
