The Video Omelette: Jan 20, 2008
This week's Video Omelette features the bands that I'm currently overplaying. I always find myself overplaying bands and getting really sick of them. I never seem to learn my lesson either, which in turn makes me stop listening to bands for a while. Maybe that is why I am constantly seeking out new music? Actually, I'm sure that's why.
Anyway, here is my Video Omelette.
MGMT - "Time To Pretend"
I am getting my first chance to see MGMT tomorrow night, and I couldn't be happier. Their latest album, Oracular Spectacular, is remarkable from start to finish. Here is the song that starts the album off.
Yeasayer - "No Need To Worry"
I get to see Yeasayer tomorrow night also! They just happen to be co-headlining a tour with MGMT! This double header is sure to be a good time. Stay tuned for the review of show, but for now enjoy this tasty bit from a CMJ/Fader party.
The Moldy Peaches - "Anyone Else But You"
After recently seeing the film Juno, the music intrigued me enough to get the soundtrack. On first listen, the song that stood out most from the soundtrack was "Anyone Else But You" by The Moldy Peaches, both the original, and the cover by actors Michael Cera and Ellen Page. After reading up on The Moldy Peaches, and ingesting some of their music I have become a fan of their quirky sound. I am hoping to catch band member Kimya Dawson at this year's SxSW, but I am sure it will be a difficult showcase to get in after having Juno make her a household name. Here are The Moldy Peaches performing "Anyone Else But You" at the Juno premiere.
Band Of Horses - "Is There A Ghost"
I really love this song. The only thing that pisses me off about Band of Horses is that they sold out their show in Austin before I could get tickets. Bastards. This is from their record release party for Cease To Begin.
Jens Lekman - "You Can Call Me Al"
Many people have covered this song, but nobody has taken the song and made it his own like Jens Lekman has done with this Paul Simon cover. Here he is performing at the Granada Theater in Dallas last November.
That is all I have this week for the Video Omelette. Hopefully next week I will be featuring bands from the Bonnaroo and Coachella line-ups, but they have to go ahead and release them before I do that. Hope you enjoyed this week's selections!
Until Next Time,
Eat Your Damn Breakfast!
