Walking and/or Wakarusa
So. I've been doing a lot of walking lately (walking is the new driving, you know) and my soundtrack is invariably provided by either Eggs' iPod or my not-an-iPod. Last week, while speedwalking to my bus stop on the way to work, Wilco's "Walken" and The Dodos' "Walking" joined the rotation within a few songs of each other, and that got me to thinking about songs about, well...walking. Because I am rather odd, I proceeded to compile a list of my favorite songs related (however loosely) to pedestrian activities.
Check it after the jump
Air - The Vagabond
Citizen Cope - My Way Home
The Dodos - Walking
Eric Clapton - Walking Blues
Grateful Dead - Shakedown Street
Imogen Heap - The Walk
JJ Cale - Travelin' Light
Marc Broussard - The Wanderer
My Morning Jacket - Bermuda Highway
My Morning Jacket - Sec Walkin'
Nancy Sinatra - These Boots Are Made for Walking
Paolo Nutini - These Streets
Robert Plant & Alison Krauss - Gone Gone Gone
Tegan & Sara - Walking with a Ghost
The Ting Tings - We Walk
Widespread Panic - Walkin' (For Your Love)
Wilco - Walken
I'm sure I missed a few - feel free to let me know via comment.
Speaking of walking, Eggs and Toast are at Wakarusa for the rest of the weekend, so check back soon to find out what happened and who they saw at Clinton State Park. I've heard reports that the weather adversely affected Thursday's festivities - shows were cancelled from 8pm on. Sad to hear, because I know that Eggs was particularly looking forward to seeing BOT friends Future Rock perform. Hopefully the skies will clear and tomorrow's shows will go as scheduled. If all goes according to plan, they'll be delivering coverage from Built to Spill, Mates of State, Apollo Sunshine, Del the Funky Homosapien, The Flaming Lips, EOTO, State Radio, Ozomatli, Hot Buttered Rum, Keller Williams, The Avett Brothers, and many more.
On a tangential note, Wakarusa changed the name of their transportation service from 'No Waka Shuttle' to 'Waka Trolley' this year. What gives?! 'No Waka Shuttle' was a far superior name, if you ask me. Just saying.
Did you know that gas is 12 cents a gallon in Venezuela? Not that it would affect me, since I don't have a car and all. Walking rocks. What humidity?
I stumbled across a nifty maps tool last night - for any pedestrians out there who have wondered about the walking distance between two points or wanted directions that disregard one-way streets, check out Ask.com's maps. Click on the 'Walking' tab after you've entered the start and end points, and you'll get - you guessed it - walking directions. Beautiful. Now, when will Google Pedestrian Maps be released?
One less car!
