My Morning Jacket

My Morning Jacket to Play Madison Square Garden on New Year's Eve

Is it too early to make New Year's Eve plans? I already know that this is where I want to be:

I simply can't think of a better way to ring in 2009.

MMJ's newest studio effort, Evil Urges, was released on June 10th. I've been playing it incessantly - yes, that's including "Highly Suspicious", despite all the thumbs-down comments we keep getting on our video of the song from their Houston show in March. It's an unexpected piece of brilliance featuring more than a few nods to TAFKAP. A little goofy, sure, but how could you possibly not grin at lyrics like "peanut butter pudding surprise/Pulitzer prize"?

Update: Want to know what MMJ played during their late-night set at Bonnaroo this year? Check out the setlist after the jump - but be warned...I almost became physically ill when I saw it. Can't believe I missed such a stellar set!

MMJ on SNL

My Morning Jacket debuted two songs off of their new album Evil Urges to a national audience when they took the stage on Saturday Night Live this last weekend. They tore through versions of "I'm Amazed" and "Evil Urges" during the hour-and-a-half sketch comedy program. I know most of you were glued to the TV at 11:30 on a Saturday night, and not off doing something social, but for those of you were out on the town here is a chance to see what you missed.

This album is going to be outstanding!

Listen to your "Evil Urges"

Last month, the Breakfast On Tour crew attended My Morning Jacket's show in Houston at Verizon Wireless Theater. During the show they played through many of their classics, but they also debuted 8 of the new songs from their yet-to-be-released album Evil Urges. We decided to capture all of those songs on video so that MMJ's die-hard fans could get a taste of what was in store for them upon the CD's release in June. As expected, those videos received a lot of attention! Apparently so much attention that it caused My Morning Jacket to release the title track off of their new album 2 months early.

"All Eyes" on My Morning Jacket

At last years Lollapalooza festival everybody was instructed to bring their recording gear of choice (cell phone, digital camera, hand-held recorder) to My Morning Jacket's afternoon set. At the opportune time, a 'special guest' was to come out on stage to announce when everybody was to start recording. After the festival, Current TV took all of the footage and made it into this:

Current did a really good job with this video. Of course the special guest was a given, being Perry Farrell's festival and all. I hope that they continue to do these "All Eyes" segments because they are quite enjoyable. Feel free to let us know what you think of the video.
