It is now officially summer! That is great news to most, but in particular, for music lovers. With one 2008 festival already under the BOT crew's belts, I have found it quite hard to motivate myself to get out to our local venues and hot spots to catch some of the excellent acts that are coming through the area. With Rothbury merely days away, it seems meek to spend my time on anything else knowing that I will soon see some of the most amazing acts to grace the stage all in one location. Then I realized how uncouth it would be of me to neglect my roots. Once I heard that Oakhurst was coming to Lincoln, my Friday evening plans were set in stone. They were at Wakarusa, but unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts, were enjoyed mainly through the eyes of other festivalgoers.

Go See Oakhurst with Triggertown, This Friday, June 27th @ Knickerbockers

Oakhurst

What’s up my Lincoln folks? This Friday, Oakhurst out of Denver, CO will be taking the stage at Knickerbockers thanks to Rad Kadillac Productions. For those of you who have yet to hear of these guys, they have been pickin’ up much steam as they tour extensively throughout the U.S. as well as Europe, hitting up several bars and theaters as well as the festival scene. Their fusion of bluegrass and folk tunes with classic rock n’ roll numbers has earned them respect wherever they go. In support of Oakhurst is a local bluegrass group out of Lincoln by the name of Triggertown, who are also quite a delight. If you are a regular to Knickerbockers, you know what to expect, but to those of you who are not, particularly for bluegrass shows, plan on a sweaty, jam-packed night full of excitement. Tickets are only $8 at the door for this act that is sure to please a variety of music fans. Show's at 9:30pm. See you there!

Cornmeal, Triggertown @ Knickerbockers, 5/8/08

I was turned on to bluegrass about 5 years ago. A friend of mine had given me a burned disc of a Yonder Mountain String Band show and I instantly fell in love. Well, maybe not instantly. To be real with you, it took me a while to abandon my need for screaming electric guitar and lengthy drum solos to finally accept that there are other styles of music that are just as beautiful, if not more, than what I was into. After attending numerous Yonder shows, I finally expanded my horizons on the bluegrass frontier by seeing acts such as Hot Buttered Rum String Band, Bela Fleck and Split Lip Rayfield amongst many. These acts have cultured me in this realm and have since led to me venturing out to see more bluegrass shows when they are around.

Toubab Krewe @ Knickerbockers on 3-30-08

Toubab Krewe

So… About three weeks ago, a soon to be former BOT member and I attended the Toubab Krewe show at Knickerbockers in Lincoln, NE. To be exact, it was on Sunday, March 30th. Do not think that the BOT crew is just a bunch of slackers. There are just a few BOT impostors that try to invade our vicinity. Our job, amongst writing about all things music, includes systematically weeding out these jokers.

Knickerbockers Trampled By Turtles! There Were No Survivors!

Trampled By Turtles

Actually I think everyone survived. It was another cold, rainy night in Lincoln, NE. The stage was set for a great bluegrass show at Knickerbockers. It was April 9, 2008 and the rustic bar was filling in with anticipation of the two acts from Duluth, MN. First up we had Charlie Parr, followed shortly there after by Trampled By Turtles. This ended up being a wonderful one-two punch, as both acts complemented each other nicely.

Polydypsia Funks Up Knickerbockers!!!

Polydypsia

A variety of music was soon to take over the crowd, many still filtering in with a slated start time of 9:00pm. I once again found myself at Knickerbockers in Lincoln, NE on a Friday night, February 15, 2008 to be exact. A local bluegrass group out of Lincoln by the name of Slim Pickens was first to take the stage. They played an array of covers including an excellent version "Kentucky Mandolin". After a 45-minute set, Polydypsia was set to take the stage next and did so in gracious fashion.

And the Winner Is... Waka Winter Classic Hits Lincoln

The Lincoln, NE Waka Winter Classic was on 1-24-08 at Knickerbockers. Although one of the bands did not show, the event was still a great success. It featured three great local acts all for the low, low price of $5. That admission fee also bought you a chance to vote on which band will make the trip down to Lawrence, KS for the Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival. Wakarusa will be held on June 5-8, 2008.

C-Dub, the Cornerstone To Any Nutritious Breakfast!

Two dollar Old Style tall boys were flowing heavily on Friday, December 14 at Knickerbockers in downtown Lincoln, NE. Cornerstone Dub(C-Dub), a local act, was set to hit the stage sometime during the night. Rumor was that they were supposed to be on at nine o'clock, but arriving at that time, I soon realized that was not the case.
