Trampled By Turtles

Trampled By Turtles - "Feet and Bones"

Sometimes I just need a serious dose of foot-stompin' bluegrass to get my day going. Being a big fan of all types of music, there is something to be said about the bluegrass, or newgrass, that is being produced today. It is one of the only types of live music that will consistently get me on my feet. Bands like Yonder Mountain String Band and Railroad Earth have no problem keeping me motivated enough to boogie from the moment they hit the stage until they finish their encore. One newgrass group that I've yet to see, but Toast has covered on numerous occasions, are Minnesota revivalists Trampled By Turtles. Their brand of the genre is quicker and more energetic than most, and is one of the best examples of what bluegrass has become in recent years. I was browsing YouTube the other day, and came across a video of the group running through the speedy "Feet and Bones" for Minneapolis radio station 89.3 The Current. It's very addictive, so beware...

Trampled By Turtles will be making stops throughout the midwest including Toast's hometown of Lincoln, Nebraska on May 15. Also included in their tour are sets at both Wakarusa and High Sierra music festivals. Check 'em out... I'm dying to!

Sometimes the weather in Nebraska can change almost instantly. One minute you're wearing shorts, the next you're in thermals, chattering your teeth under a mound of blankets. This was definitely the case this past weekend, as it seems to be every time Duluth, MN natives Trampled By Turtles (TBT) make their way to the Star City. I spent most of Saturday in bed, recuperating from an extended booze-induced festival that had kicked off for no reason other than it was the weekend. Finally, no day job! Pulp Fiction and Friday were my best friends, as I took myself back a few years enjoyed a lazy day. But when I finally got moving at about 6pm, I found out that it had been about 60 degrees all day, and I'd missed it! I In a moment of extreme optimism, I hoped to be greeted by similar weather the following day as TBT made their way into Lincoln to take over the stage at Knickerbockers on December 14, 2008.

Knickerbockers Trampled By Turtles! There Were No Survivors!

Trampled By Turtles

Actually I think everyone survived. It was another cold, rainy night in Lincoln, NE. The stage was set for a great bluegrass show at Knickerbockers. It was April 9, 2008 and the rustic bar was filling in with anticipation of the two acts from Duluth, MN. First up we had Charlie Parr, followed shortly there after by Trampled By Turtles. This ended up being a wonderful one-two punch, as both acts complemented each other nicely.
