Oakhurst with Triggertown @ Knickerbockers 6/27/08

Johnny James Qualley and A.P. Hill of Oakhurst
It is now officially summer! That is great news to most, but in particular, for music lovers. With one 2008 festival already under the BOT crew's belts, I have found it quite hard to motivate myself to get out to our local venues and hot spots to catch some of the excellent acts that are coming through the area. With Rothbury merely days away, it seems meek to spend my time on anything else knowing that I will soon see some of the most amazing acts to grace the stage all in one location. Then I realized how uncouth it would be of me to neglect my roots. Once I heard that Oakhurst was coming to Lincoln, my Friday evening plans were set in stone. They were at Wakarusa, but unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts, were enjoyed mainly through the eyes of other festivalgoers.

Go See Oakhurst with Triggertown, This Friday, June 27th @ Knickerbockers

What’s up my Lincoln folks? This Friday, Oakhurst out of Denver, CO will be taking the stage at Knickerbockers thanks to Rad Kadillac Productions. For those of you who have yet to hear of these guys, they have been pickin’ up much steam as they tour extensively throughout the U.S. as well as Europe, hitting up several bars and theaters as well as the festival scene. Their fusion of bluegrass and folk tunes with classic rock n’ roll numbers has earned them respect wherever they go. In support of Oakhurst is a local bluegrass group out of Lincoln by the name of Triggertown, who are also quite a delight. If you are a regular to Knickerbockers, you know what to expect, but to those of you who are not, particularly for bluegrass shows, plan on a sweaty, jam-packed night full of excitement. Tickets are only $8 at the door for this act that is sure to please a variety of music fans. Show's at 9:30pm. See you there!

Submitted by toast on Mon, 05/12/2008 - 18:51.I was turned on to bluegrass about 5 years ago. A friend of mine had given me a burned disc of a Yonder Mountain String Band show and I instantly fell in love. Well, maybe not instantly. To be real with you, it took me a while to abandon my need for screaming electric guitar and lengthy drum solos to finally accept that there are other styles of music that are just as beautiful, if not more, than what I was into. After attending numerous Yonder shows, I finally expanded my horizons on the bluegrass frontier by seeing acts such as Hot Buttered Rum String Band, Bela Fleck and Split Lip Rayfield amongst many. These acts have cultured me in this realm and have since led to me venturing out to see more bluegrass shows when they are around.
EOTO Leaves Lincoln Dripping Sweat; 5/3/08 @ Box Awesome
Submitted by toast on Wed, 05/07/2008 - 14:48.Five years ago, I would have laughed heartily if you told me that I would be into electronic music. For me, it had always been quite hard to respect an act that relied solely on computers to make their music. I have had several acquaintances try to sway me throughout the years, to no avail. Eventually I would begin to attend festivals regularly. I soon began to be able to handle some of these acts as they make for excellent late night antics. Then EOTO came along. Being a Cheese fan, I felt obligated to check them out when they came to Omaha on their first tour. I did not know what to expect, but was quite skeptical going into the night. Regardless, I had a blast that night and was inspired to take on more music with electronic roots, from groups like Zilla and Lotus to acts such as Hot Chip and Justice. This is all music that previously I would have not even given a chance to, but now, will take on in a heartbeat.
