Via Colori 2009

The 2009 edition of Via Colori took place a few weekends ago, and went off without a hitch – on Sunday. Unfortunately, Saturday's events were rained out, which didn't allow the street painting to even begin. Some musical events did take place on Saturday, though, so it wasn't a complete wash (pun intended). Sunday featured a bunch of our favorite acts, including Elaine Greer, Wild Moccasins and Buxton, on top of the fabulous works of art being created all around.

Show Preview: Via Colori 2009

Well, it's another fall weekend here in Houston which brings another great musical event to fill our time. On Saturday, November 21st and Sunday November 22nd, The Center for Hearing and Speech will be presenting the 2009 edition of Via Colori, a street painting festival that, along with the amazing chalk work of local and national artists, will also feature some of Houston's most buzzworthy local bands. We were able to make it out to both days of last years event, and had such a great time checking out the artists work and enjoying great sets of music by the likes of Moses Guest, Sideshow Tramps and The Wild Moccasins. This year will have two stages featuring somewhat of a who's who of local indie music with performances by Buxton, Spain Colored Orange, Runaway Sun, Elaine Greer and a return trip by The Wild Moccasins.

Via Colori is completely free, and will feature tons of local vendors, reasonably priced food and drink, a photography contest and several other events to keep you busy all afternoon. You can find out more by visiting Via Colori's official website, or by following them on Twitter. You can also browse the official music schedule after the jump.

Via Colori 2008 - Houston

We spent Saturday, November 22 and Sunday, November 23 in downtown Houston checking out the art and music at the Via Colori street painting festival. The event, which is sponsored by the Center for Hearing and Speech, celebrated its third year in Houston by bringing in over 175 artists to create pastel masterpieces on Allen Parkway and Babgy Street next to Sam Houston Park. Sixteen musical performers also provided entertainment on two stages. Unlike in years past, the weather cooperated beautifully over the weekend, drawing many groups and families out to enjoy the sunshine and unique street drawings. If you missed it this time around, it's definitely worth checking out next year. If you're not in the Houston area, Via Colori also takes place in Columbus, OH; Bardstown, KY; Harrisburg, PA; Naples, FL; Scottsdale, AZ; and Seaside, FL.
