Toubab Krewe @ Knickerbockers on 3-30-08
Toubab Krewe
So… About three weeks ago, a soon to be former BOT member and I attended the Toubab Krewe show at Knickerbockers in Lincoln, NE. To be exact, it was on Sunday, March 30th. Do not think that the BOT crew is just a bunch of slackers. There are just a few BOT impostors that try to invade our vicinity. Our job, amongst writing about all things music, includes systematically weeding out these jokers.
Now that is where I began writing. This article was to be written by that impostor, but after waiting almost three weeks without results finally decided to take matters into my own hands. So I’m not going to write a full-length review on this, as it is so far gone from most of our heads to recall much. I will write a few short blurbs about the night and call it good. I will also include some pictures I took at the show. Sorry for the delay, but I hope all of my explaining will make it up to you.
And the article begins. The Krewe played a two hour set to the mid sized Sunday night Lincoln crowd. The energy was tame at first, but the eccentric beats being laid down soon helped pick up the pace a little bit. By the end of the show, everyone was getting into it and most were saddened to see them end, calling the Krewe back to the stage for a one song encore.

After the show, we stuck around for a bit and had a beer, hoping to get in a few words with Toubab Krewe. After a short while, who sat next to us but Luke Quaranta and Justin Perkins from the Krewe. We stuck around for about another 20 minutes shootin the shit with them. These two gentlemen were very down to Earth, normal guys and had some interesting things to say. This summer is going to be quite busy for them, including Quaranta's wedding (Sorry Cereal). They will be taking some time off for that. Also discovered that they will be releasing their sophomore album sometime this fall which, for many Toubab Krewe fans, will be greatly anticipated.

We were also treated to a few stories of their trips to Africa, including one instance that sticks in my mind quite vividly. It occurred while their bus was traveling down a dirt road. They came upon this young man walking down the road. As they eased closer, it became evident that he was covered in some sort of animal skin. The skin turned out to be a coyote carcass gutted and this man was wearing the animal like a coat. I’m sure that was kind of an eye opener, highlighting the fact that they were far from home.

Overall, the Toubab Krewe experience was delightful, as per usual. I wish I had a better recollection of the show, but I wasn’t planning on covering it. For the Krewe providing Lincoln with some unique, Mali music, mixed with their jammy roots, I give them 9/10 slices. I suggest checking them out if they make it around you, as I can’t get enough of them, and man I freakin' love these guys.

*sigh* I had such high hopes. Thanks for picking up the slack though, Toastman.
Are these your first shots with the new SLR? They look good!
ps - I'm already starting to get over Luke's impending marriage. I liked him better with long hair anyway :P
