Wakarusa 2010 : Preview

Yet another year of Wakarusa is quickly approaching. In it's seventh year since Waka's inception, this year looks to be bigger and better when it comes to attendance, music, activities and general madness. Although each year has improved upon itself, the move from Kansas to Ozark, Arkansas was the best possible thing that could have happened to the festival. Mulberry Mountain is a much more scenic and friendly environment.

Now let's talk about the music, since after all, that is what were all about. Widespread Panic has emerged as an epic act in the lineup. They will be making their first trip back to Waka since 2007. Make sure to catch them headlining Saturday night with a ginormous 3 hour set. Some of my other highlights of the lineup include The Black Keys, Umphrey's Mcgee, Animal Liberation Orchestra, State Radio, Todd Snider, The Mother Hips and EOTO to name just a few. One thing I've always enjoyed about Wakarusa is the variety of smaller acts that are booked at the festival. This year is no different. I have several acts that I feel that need to be investigated a little more. If you're looking for some new sounds, check out;

-Trampled By Turtles (Thrashgrass. If you're into bluegrass and folk, DO NOT MISS THEM!)

-Kraak and Smaak (Dutch Electronica)

-The Bridge (Jam)

-Lynx and Janover (Hip Hop, Jam, Rock, Electronic.... Fusion of EVERYTHING)

And we're still barely scraping the surface. This looks like the best lineup I've seen at Wakarusa to date!!! Hope everyone's got their tickets, as the 4 day passes have just sold out. We'll see ya on the mountain!
